Manuel Sahagun brings up his hat-trick release for Drop Music. Following the ‘Hit Me EP’ (2010) and the ‘Dirty Dancing EP’ (2008), the Argentinean’s third outing, the ‘Basement Sounds EP’, on the legendary Nottingham label firmly marks him as one of the new breed of underground house producers who have emerged in the last 5 years, having been originally influenced by the Midlands sound and it’s trailblazers Inland Knights.
His 2 track EP marries powerful beats with funky baselines and brass top lines, while intricate sequencing brings additional interest to the super-solid grooves. ‘Positive Faces’ nods back to a filtered French house sound while ‘Strange’ has relentless tribal-tinged beats straight from the Wiggle school of house.
With previous outings for Blockhead, So Sound, Uma, Kolour, Flavor, Bambino and his own Candy Music, residencies in Argentina at Pacha and Superclub, and performances at festivals including Creamfields and Personal Fest, Sahagun is already a key player in South America has firmly been making his mark on a worldwide audience.
